Annual
General Meeting – our new Committee
Many
thanks to all of you
who supported us at last month’s Annual General Meeting. I
apologise for the
last minute change in venue. Over running building works at the Lawn
Bowls
Pavilion, (where they have just installed a third skittles alley to
allow the
former Westinghouse skittles team to take up residence) made it
impossible for
the meeting to be held there. The AGM was therefore switched at the
last minute
to the somewhat noisy lounge at the Sports Club.
The
background noise made
it all the more difficult to present the various papers as we would
have
wished. Those of you who have not yet managed to read through them will
find
copies in the Club Room and also on our website - http://www.chippenhamtennis.org.uk .
The
Committee for 2008/9, elected by members at the AGM comprises
Chairman
David Corcoran
Secretary
Tony Clark
Treasurer
Pete Hopwood
Men’s
Captain
Ted Daszkiewicz
Ladies
Captain Susan
Mansfield
Mixed

League
Rep

Members

Moss, Mike Powell, Mark Terrell.
In

of the
Committee.
My
grateful thanks to the retiring members Tim Sheward and Paul Newman.
Floodlights
Can
I remind you all that the dark nights don’t mean and end to
the tennis
season. Sadly, our
floodlights are
costing more and more to run as power prices keep on increasing.
Happily, we
have not increased the floodlight fees for the past 10 years, so buying
a £1
token for at least 30 minutes play per court remains a bargain. I say
‘at
least’ because as the system ages, the tokens for courts 5
and 6 seem to give
more time for your money than ever!
Tokens
are available from the upstairs bar. Don’t forget that,
because of planning
restrictions, the lights must go off no later than 9.30. I know some of
those
who help with the opening roster on Club Nights have keys to operate
the lights
on other courts. We have no problem with this – but please
make sure you pay
your £1 per half hour for each court lit. You can leave cash
behind the
upstairs bar for the Treasurer to collect.
Now
that the clocks have gone back, the 50p floodlight charge has been
reintroduced
for our Club Night sessions. That must be a bargain – you can
get 3½ hours of
floodlit tennis for that! Charges come off as soon as the clocks go on
again.
Box
Leagues
Our
first session of box leagues is now well in hand. If you are
participating,
please make sure you get all your matches in in good time for the next
session.
Dates are on the Club notice board.
Christmas
Dinner
For
those of you who were too late to get their
names down for the annual Christmas dinner - the Bell Hotel in Sutton
Benger on
Thursday 4 December – some good news; we have had a couple of
late withdrawals
so that there are still some places left. If you would like to join in,
please
give Rachael a call on 07867
966281.
