2009 Notes
Courts
closed for repainting from 24 August
In
last month’s notes I reported that we had earmarked the week beginning
24 August for the cleaning and repainting of our tennis courts. I can
now confirm this. We’ll aim to get the work done as quickly as possible
– but this does mean giving the contractor access to all courts at the
same time so that he can best mobilise his resources. This will mean that the courts will be
closed for play for five days from Monday 24 August.
Hopefully we can reopen them by Saturday 30 August. We’ll do it sooner
if possible, though we are largely in the hands of the weather gods on
this.
As
I said in July, closure will effect Club nights that week and members’
social play. It will also mean that any one who still has preliminary
rounds in the Club Championships to complete must make sure that their
matches are completed in good time.

Floodlights
ready for the winter
The
new floodlights have already been used for a number of re-arranged
league matches and seem to be proving their worth. Now that the
evenings are already closing in, we can check them for performance
against specification. We’ll be doing that later this week

Replacement
fencing
We
have signed a contract for the replacement
and strengthening of the fencing along the southern
perimeter of the courts – overlooking the cricket pitch. We aim to get
the work done in early autumn.
Finals
Day - Sunday 6 September
Don’t
forget Finals Day – our main competitive event of the season – will
take place on Sunday, 6 September. If you still have preliminary
matches to finish, please make sure you get them played off in good
time – remembering the courts will be closed from 24 August.
Peter
Loader has kindly agreed to present the prizes at the conclusion of
proceedings – that will be ‘late afternoon’; final timings depend, of
course, on how the matches go.
If
you are not playing, please come along to support those who are; junior
events are scheduled to start at 9.30am; senior events at 1.00pm.
And
a few gentle reminders….
·
If
you are using the Club Room you are, of course, welcome to use any of
the crockery or cutlery. But if you do, please remember to wash up any
items you may have used and put them away before you leave. Don’t leave
dirty cups in the sink in anticipation of miraculous cleansing;
·
If
you open new tubes of balls on court, please dispose of the ring pulls
in the waste bin. And remember to remove empty water bottles, banana
skins and whatever else you have taken on court with you and dispose of
them properly.
Enjoy
your tennis
